Lifestyle risk factors predict disability in healthy aging adults
Seniors (aged 60+ yrs) were followed for 20 yrs or till their death. Those with fewer lifestyle risk factors had lower disability and improved survival. For example, people from the low-risk group (non-smoker, normal weight and active) had onset of moderate disability delayed by 8 yrs compared with the high-risk group (smoking, overweight and inactive).
